Forbidden Love
The stars still danced in the dawning sky
As we walked the enchanted wood;
Kind eyes gleam and berries bloom
In a toadstool circle we stood.
Our forbidden love is sacred
yet it is so strong;
But the sun will soon be watching
The birds will sing their song,
Now the night has ended
we shall soon go home;
So he slides into her fingers
A single red rose.

The pain of loving you when you belong to another
Is causing me to hide away;
I thought that you would've been true to me
But then SHE asked you to stay.
You think I will always be there
No matter what you do;
But loving you is breaking my heart
Man-You really haven't a clue.
All the years I thought you'd see
My love is true and strong;
You fell for all her outward charms
And Boy oh Boy were you wrong!
I have now myself forbidden
To dream or look at you;
I know the pure love I crave
Incomprehensible-you haven't a clue!
Why my heart went to where you are
Is something I'll never know;
I value my heart and my life and from now
So onward and upward I go!

Your kiss was sweeter than I ever knew
My heart skipped so much faster;
You were not mine to kiss
This will only lead to disaster.
My head kept telling my heart to stop
Oh dear! Whatever shall I do;
I don't seem to be able to stop myself
Whenever I am close to you.
You know that we must stop this tryst right now
I beg you if you are strong then please just go away;
Your poor wife she cannot know and
Don't lead me on as if to save for another day.

We've promised ourselves to one another
But no one else can know;
As you come from the wrong side of town
And my parents won't let me go.
You're black and I am white
It doesn't bother us;
No one else should care at all
But God there will be a fuss!
Inside our hearts beat as one
Our blood is both bright red;
I know that wherever we try and go
That we will end up dead!
Cultures old and religions too
Run along side by side;
I don't want to upset my parents
But buckets we have cried.

My mind recalls the essence of your touch
Although I try to forget, I see you when I close my eyes
Your warmth and gentleness have engulfed my soul,
They illuminate even the darkest shadows of my being.
The forbidden love I have for you will not die
Neither time nor man can stop my heart from beating,
My lips from speaking your name.
Do not turn from me
For if I can be nothing more to you...
I desire to be just one breath that you take
To feel you completely, to be in your heart for one moment.
Perhaps someday you will treasure me
Hold me, never leave me.
Proving to me that my love is not in vain.
