Funeral Poems

As you say the last goodbye
To the one you have loved so much;
You are now handing them over
To receive their guardian angels touch.

They won't want you to worry
They won't want you to cry;
They will be upset if you grieve to long
So you mustn't even try!

It takes a long time to adjust
To this gap within your life;
So lean on us whenever you need
When the pain feels like a knife.

When I am gone, release me -let me go
I have so many things to see and do.-
You must not tie yourself to me with tears
Be happy that we had so many years
I gave you love, you can only guess
how much you gave me in happiness
I thank you for the love each have shown
But now it is time I travelled alone
So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust -
It is only for a while that we must part
So bless those memories within your heart.-
I will not be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come. -
Though you cannot see or touch me, I will be near -
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear -
All of my love around you, soft and clear.-
Then when you must come this way alone,
I will greet you with a smile and "welcome home"

A gift for such a little while,
Your loss just seems so wrong,
You should not have left before us,
It’s with loved ones you belong.

**

I thought of you with love today but that is nothing new
I thought about you yesterday and days before that too,
I think of you in silence I often speak your name
All I have are memories and your picture in a frame
Your memory is my keepsake with which I’ll never part
God has you in His keeping I have you in my heart.

For the Sad Loss of a Child

She was so very, very special
And was so from the start
You held her in your arms
But mainly in your heart

And like a single drop of rain
That on still waters fall,
Her life did ripples make
And touched the lives of all.

She's gone to play with angels
In heaven up above
So keep your special memories
And treasure. them with love

The world may never notice
If a Snowdrop doesn't bloom,
Or even pause to wonder
If the petals fall too soon.

But every life that ever forms,
Or ever comes to be,
Touches the world in some small way
For all eternity.

The little one we longed for
Was swiftly here and gone.
But the love that was then planted
Is a light that still shines on.

And though our arms are empty,
Our hearts know what to do.
Every beating of our hearts
Says that we love you.

**

Time has taken me from you,
Although not very far.
I'll be watching through the sunshine
And through the brightest star.

I'll be watching all of you,
From the heavens up above.
So take good care of each other
And carry all my love.

If you're ever wondering
If I'm there, here's where you can start.
Take a look inside yourself
Deep within your heart.

I'll always be your baby,
Your child (grandchild), your best friend.
So anytime you need me,
Close your eyes I'm back again.

Family o' mine

I should like to send you a sunbeam, or the twinkle of some bright star
or a tiny piece of the downy fleece that clings to a cloud afar.
I should like to send you the essence of a myriad sun-kissed flowers
or the lilting song as it floats along, of a brook through fairy bowers.
I should like to send you the dew-drops that glisten at break of day
and then at night the eerie light that mantles the Milky Way.
I should like to send you the power that nothing can overflow
the power to smile and laugh the while a-journeying through life you go.
But these are mere fanciful wishes; I'll send you a Godspeed instead
and I'll clasp your hand - then you'll understand all the things I have left unsaid.

His journey's just begun

Don't think of him as gone away
his journey's just begun
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.

Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.

And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched..

for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.

If roses grow in heaven

If roses grow in heaven
Lord please pick a bunch for me
Place them in my Mother's arms
and tell her they're from me.

Tell her I love her and miss her
and when she turns to smile
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.

Because remembering her is easy
I do it every day
but there's an ache within my heart
that will never go away.

If only

If only we could see the splendor of the land
To which our loved ones are called from you and me
We'd understand
If only we could hear the welcome they receive
From old familiar voices all so dear
We would not grieve
If only we could know the reason why they went
We'd smile and wipe away the tears that flow
And wait content.

If I should go tomorrow

If I should go tomorrow
It would never be goodbye
For I have left my heart with you
So don't you ever cry.

The love that's deep within me
Shall reach you from the stars
You'll feel it from the heavens
And it will heal the scars.

Let me go

We've known lots of pleasure
At times endured pain
We've lived in the sunshine
And walked in the rain.

But now we're separated
And for a time apart
But I am not alone
You're forever in my heart.

Death always seems so sudden
And it is always sure
But what is oft' forgotten
It is not without a cure.

There may be times you miss me
I sort of hope you do
But smile when you think of me
For I'll be waiting for you.

Now there's many things for you to
And lots of ways to grow
So get busy, be happy, and live your life
Miss me, but let me go.

Silent tear

Each night we shed a silent tear
As we speak to you in prayer.
To let you know we love you
And just how much we care.

Take our million teardrops
Wrap them up in love
Then ask the wind to carry them
To you in heaven above.

The clock of life is wound but once

The clock of life is wound but once
And no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop
At late or early hour.

To lose one's wealth is sad indeed
To lose one's health is more
To lose one's soul is such a loss
That no man can restore.

The present is our own
So live love, toil with a will
Place no faith in "tomorrow,"
For the clock may then be still.

Time will ease the hurt

The sadness of the present days
Is locked and set in time
And moving to the future
Is a slow and painful climb.

But all the feelings that are now
So vivid and so real
Can't hold their fresh intensity
As time begins to heal.

No wound so deep will ever go
Entirely away;
Yet every hurt becomes
A little less from day to day.

Nothing else can erase the painful
Imprints on your mind;
But there are softer memories
That time will let you find.

Though your heart won't let the sadness
Simply slide away
The echoes will diminish
Even though the memories stay.

When tomorrow starts without me

When tomorrow starts without me, and I am not here to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me
I know how much you love me as much as I love you
And each time you think of me I know you'll miss me too
But when tomorrow starts without me please try to understand
That Jesus came and called my name and took me by the hand.
He said that my place is ready in heaven far above
And that I have to leave behind all those I dearly love.
But as I turned to walk away a tear fell from my eye
For all my life I'd always thought it wasn't my time to die.
I had so much to live for and so much yet to do
It seems almost impossible that I was leaving you.
I thought of all the yesterdays the good ones and the bad
I thought of all the love we shared and all the fun we had.
If I could have stayed for just a while
I'd say goodbye and kiss you and maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realize that this could never be
For emptiness and memories would take the place of me.
And when I thought of worldly things that I would miss tomorrow
I thought of you and when I did my heart was filled with sorrow.
But when I walked through heaven's gate and felt so much at home
As God looked down and smiled at me from his great golden throne.
He said "This is eternity, and all I've promised you
Today your life on earth is past, but here it starts anew."
"I promise no tomorrow but today will always last
And since each day's the same here there's no longing for the past."
So when tomorrow starts without me don't think we're far apart
For every time you think of me I'm right here in your heart.

My love, it's been a week since you went away.
Honey, I miss you more and more each day.
It seems like a dream that never ends,
You were loved so much by your many friends.

I know in my heart, you're in a better place,
But it's hard not to see your pretty face.
I knew in my heart that the die was cast,
The Lord was calling you home at last.

But I still had hopes, a miracle would be,
And you would get well, so I could see,
You once again, the way you were before
That tumor took you far from shore.

I guess I'm being selfish for wanting you here,
God needed you more, away up there
So goodbye, my Love, thanks for the ride
Some day we'll meet on the other side,

Until that time, when we shall meet,
I love you Honey, save me a seat.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss
This is a very sad time for you;
Please don't hesitate to let me know
If there's anything I can do.

You will feel bereft, empty and meaningless
Life as you know it has disappeared;
But I am here to help you
As your reasons will have vanished.

bereavement poems

Those we love remain with us
For love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade
Because a loved one's gone.
Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart,
Far as long as there is memory,
They'll live on in the heart.

You have been left so suddenly
You must be in shock;
It will take a while for it to sink in
Then you will be taking stock.

You will be feeling empty
If you feel anything at all;
He would be so proud of you
Standing here, standing tall.

** bereavement poems

Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear,
Just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy.

The following is a very well known but wonderful poem which must be included:-

Footprints

One night I dreamed I was walking
Along the beach with the Lord
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints
Other times there was only one
This bothered me because I noticed
During the low periods of my life when I was
Suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat
I could see only one set of footprints
So I said to the Lord, “You promised me
Lord, that if I followed you
You would walk with me always
But I noticed during the most trying periods
Of my life there has only been
One set of prints in the sand
Why, when I needed you most
Have you not been there for me?
The Lord replied
“The times when you have seen only one set of footprints
It was then that I carried you.”

Crossing Over

Oh, please don't feel guilty
It was just my time to go
I see you are still feeling sad
And the tears just seem to flow

We all come to earth for our lifetime
And for some it's not many years
I don't want you to keep crying
You are shedding so many tears.

I haven't really left you
Even though it may seem so
I have just gone to my heavenly home
And I'm closer to you than you know

Just believe that when you say
my name, I'm standing next to you
I know you long to see me
But there's nothing I can do

But I'll still send you messages
And hope you understand
That when your time comes to “cross over,” I'll be there
to take your hand.

Poem of Life

Life is but a stopping place
A pause in what's to be
A resting place along the road
to sweet eternity

We all have different journeys
Different paths along the way
We all were meant to learn some things
but never meant to stay...

Our destination is a place
Far greater than we know
For some the journey's quicker
For some the journey's slow

And when the journey finally ends
We'll claim a great reward
And find an everlasting peace
Together with the Lord

bereavement poems

To My Dearest Family

Some things I'd like to say
but first of all to let you know
that I arrived okay
I'm writing this from Heaven
where I dwell with God above
where there's no more tears
or sadness there is just eternal love
Please do not be unhappy
just because I'm out of sight
remember that I'm with you
every morning, noon and night
That day I had to leave you
when my life on Earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me
and He said I welcome you
It's good to have you back again
you were missed while you were gone
as for your dearest family
they'll be here later on
I need you here so badly
as part of My big plan
there's so much that we have to do
to help our mortal man
Then God gave me a list of things
He wished for me to do
and foremost on that list of mine
is to watch and care for you
And I will be beside you
every day and week and year
and when you're sad I'm standing there
to wipe away the tear
And when you lie in bed at night
the days chores put to flight
God and I are closest to you
in the middle of the night
When you think of my life on Earth
and all those loving years
because you're only human
they are bound to bring you tears
But do not be afraid to cry
it does relieve the pain
remember there would be no flowers
unless there was some rain
I wish that I could tell you
of all that God has planned
but if I were to tell you
you wouldn't understand
But one thing is for certain
though my life on Earth is o're
I am closer to you now
than I ever was before
And to my very many friends
trust God knows what is best
I'm still not far away from you
I'm just beyond the crest
There are rocky roads ahead of you
and many hills to climb
but together we can do it
taking one day at a time
It was always my philosophy
and I'd like it for you too
that as you give unto the World
so the World will give to you
If you can help somebody
who is in sorrow or in pain
then you can say to God at night
my day was not in vain
And now I am contented
that my life it was worthwhile
knowing as I passed along the way
I made somebody smile
So if you meet somebody
who is down and feeling low
just lend a hand to pick him up
as on your way you go
When you are walking down the street
and you've got me on your mind
I'm walking in your footsteps
only half a step behind
And when you feel the gentle breeze
or the wind upon your face
that's me giving you a great big hug
or just a soft embrace
And when it's time for you to go
from that body to be free
remember you're not going
you are coming here to me
And I will always love you
from that land way up above
Will be in touch again soon
P.S. God sends His Love

Support From Others

Don’t tell me that you understand
Don’t tell me that you know
Don’t tell me that I will survive
How I will surely grow

Don’t come at me with answers
That can only come from me
Don’t tell me how my grief will pass
That I will soon be free

Accept me in my ups and downs
support from others praying clasped hands
I need someone to share
Just hold my hand and let me cry
And say, “My friend, I care

A Toast

Here's to those, and such as those
And those that we love best

They're not here that should have been here
So here's to all the rest

If they'd been here that should have been
Our hearts they would be light

So here's to all the company
That wont be here tonight!

God Saw You...

God saw you getting tired
When a cure was not to be
So He wrapped his arms around you
and whispered, "Come to me".

You didn't deserve what you went through
So He gave you rest
God's garden must be beautiful
He only takes the best

And when I saw you sleeping
So peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
